Google Chat pricing

An annual commitment saves 16 percent according to Google, though it is still billed monthly. Twenty users cost $1,680 a year on Starter or $3,360 on Standard. Google's page shows euros in Germany (6.80, 13.60 and 21.10), and Google runs a 12-month introductory discount on the first 20 users for new customers. Starter through Plus stop at 300 users, so growing past that means Enterprise.

- $7 (Business Starter, annual commitment)
- Billing
- Monthly and annual.
- Annual discount
- 16% with one-year commitment per Google.
- 20 users per year
- 20 x $7 x 12 = $1,680 per year on Starter; 20 x $14 x 12 = $3,360 on Standard.

Questions to ask about price
- Is there a minimum number of seats or a minimum annual spend?
- How much can the price rise at renewal, and is the increase capped in the contract?
- Are there one-time costs for implementation, onboarding or data migration?
Is Google Chat worth the price?
Google Chat is strong value for teams already on Workspace and for companies under 300 users that want one bundled bill. You get chat, spaces and threads with no second license. It gets awkward for Microsoft 365 shops that would run two suites, and for buyers who want a deep app marketplace and advanced workflow tooling comparable to Slack. Reviewers also note limited feature depth, file-sharing size limits and occasional slowness.
Worth it if
- Teams already on Google Workspace that want chat without a second license.
- Small companies under 300 users that want one bundled bill.
Look elsewhere if
- Teams on Microsoft 365 that would run two suites.
- Buyers who want a deep app marketplace and advanced workflow tooling comparable to Slack.
Cheaper per seat than Google Chat
Chanty3 EUR (annual billing); GetApp lists $3.
Microsoft Teams$4.00 (Teams Essentials, paid yearly); $7.00 Business Basic paid yearly.
Pricing details most reviews leave out
- Chat is not sold separately: you pay for a Workspace seat starting at the Starter plan.
- Starter, Standard and Plus can be bought for at most 300 users; above that you need Enterprise.
- Annual commitment saves 16% per Google's pricing page, but billing is still monthly.
- Google's data processing terms are public and cover Workspace as a processor.
- Meet participant limits, not Chat limits, are what differ across plans (100, 150, 500, 1,000)
Our verdict on Google Chat
Google Chat is not sold on its own. You pay for a Google Workspace seat, and Chat comes included alongside Gmail, Drive and Meet. Pricing starts at $7 per user per month on Business Starter with an annual commitment. A free consumer version also exists with a personal Google account. For a team already on Workspace, the marginal cost of Chat is zero.
The catch is that you are buying the suite, not the chat tool. Starter, Standard and Plus cap at 300 users, and the differences between tiers are mostly Meet size, storage and admin features rather than anything in Chat. If you run Microsoft 365, adding Workspace just for chat means paying for two suites.
